Food and Snacks

Snack times and meal times are always key learning opportunities during our nursery day. A strong emphasis is placed on developing children's independence, their social skills and table manners. This time in the day provides a perfect opportunity to learn about the importance of healthy eating and keeping our bodies healthy.

OFSTED Report 2024: Personal development is outstanding: "Children develop high levels of independence. For example children serve themselves fruit and cereals at snack time and pour their own drinks." The children tidy up their "station" when they are finished.

Snack Time:

Children have a mid-morning and mid-afternoon snack and drink. The children are introduced to a variety of healthy snacks to share with their friends. Typical snacks include cheese, vegetable sticks, fruit, crackers, bread.

Drinks - Our Water Station:

We encourage the children to keep their bodies healthy by drinking water. "Don't get crispy, get hydrated!"

Please Note: The children have access to water at all times

  • Advise is given about what to provide, portion sizes and what foods to avoid.

A member of staff sits at each table, to support children feeding themselves, trying new foods and to create a warm and sociable atmosphere. The swans and bears sit together:

Our younger children in the cub group are closely supported with two members of staff.
